Another example of a fashion designer putting their hand to furniture, Vivienne Westwood collaborated with Molteni & C. to develop a new fabric for the glove chair. The chairs are made to look like they are covered in old paper bags and newspapers.
Produced by Dhiren Bhagwandas and Justin Hutchinson as part of the State of Design Festival, the Before & After project serves to provide new perspectives on discarded objects, in regard to social, cultural and environmental issues. Exhibited at Eat Green Design 08, the project displayed the work of a diverse group of Australian designers who reinterpreted objects for dining into valued pieces, providing a commentary on today’s consumer culture: “more thought less material”.
