Pieke Bergmans is a young product designer from the Netherlands. Her favourite modus operandi is to alter existing production processes to come to new forms and functions. A central theme in Pieke's work is the virus. It binds the many disciplines and materials with which she creates products and works of art. Manipulating standard production processes is by all means viral behaviour. In general mass production, a single form is endlessly and perfectly multiplied like a healthy cell. As she allows room for change and serendipity, Pieke aims to create processes in which products are never completely the same. www.piekebergmans.com
Produced by Dhiren Bhagwandas and Justin Hutchinson as part of the State of Design Festival, the Before & After project serves to provide new perspectives on discarded objects, in regard to social, cultural and environmental issues. Exhibited at Eat Green Design 08, the project displayed the work of a diverse group of Australian designers who reinterpreted objects for dining into valued pieces, providing a commentary on today’s consumer culture: “more thought less material”.
